Remember Comfort Inn? The Hutt's crazy replacement who worked like four months and then was suddenly fired with no explanation? We learned an interesting tidbit the other day that may intrigue you as well.
It turns out, only weeks after being fired from Tartarus, Comfort Inn was given a similar position of authority in a business much like Tartarus in another state. Let's call this new place Mictlan. It turns out people who work or have worked at Mictlan as well as concerned community members are circulating a petition to have Comfort Inn fired. (If you're wondering why a petition would work, just know that it's a complicated situation relating to the way places like Tartarus and Mictlan work).
Note that. These people have had Comfort Inn around for only a few months and they're already trying to get rid of her. Are we the only ones who see a pattern there? We're told that her employment record is full of short term jobs like that: six months here, eighteen months there. Never more than two years in a single job.
We do wonder, though, at the board at Mictlan who hired Comfort Inn without questioning what got her fired from Tartarus in such a short time. Didn't that seem odd to anyone?
With all of the chaos with Comfort Inn's abrupt departure, we nearly forgot about one of our favorite stories of the last several months. Today we bring you a story from January.
In the post holiday season, there were a number of thank you cards for the Tartarus staff to sign. We were startled to find the following message in a card for Comfort Inn: "Thanks for being a great hostage!"
"Umm, what's this all about," said Spoof.
"You remember," said Plague. "Comfort Inn invited us to that party at her house."
"You mean host," said Spoof.
"No," said Plague. "A person who hosts a party is a hostage (pronouncing it 'hoh-stage')."
And no matter what we we said, we could not convince Plague she was wrong. Especially with Mr. Ed agreeing with the pronunciation.
Since neither of us was at the party in question, we can only assume it looked something like this:
We know. We know. We dropped the Comfort Inn bomb and then went back to business as usual. Forgive us. We're still processing the news. Here's what we know as of right now:
1. Mineola is once again "temporarily" in charge.
2. Everyone seems determined to act as if Comfort Inn never existed. We are being urged to revert everything (policy and physical arrangement) back to how the Hutt had it as quickly as possible.
3. As a continuation of that, we're never going to be told anything more about what happened with Comfort Inn. Our subtle, and not so subtle, inquiries have been entirely ignored.
4. No one is overly concerned with proper procedure or even legalities. Shoes has been taking home things that Comfort Inn purchased for Tartarus out of our operating budget. This is, apparently, not a problem.
5. Our board won't be discussing starting our new director search until summer. When we are busy. Like last time. So we're looking at no less than 4-6 months without appropriate leadership. Just an interim director who works a few partial days and an assistant director who refuses to do essential parts of the job.
We don't even know what to say right now. Words fail.
Comfort Inn is gone.
Fired.
Never to set foot in Tartarus again.
This means that our board of directors actually did something for a change. They actually responded to a personnel problem. Which they did not do when we were being verbally abused. Or Shoes refused to fulfill job requirements. In fact, we have no idea what prompted this decision.
All we know is, last night the board had a meeting. Today we were told that the president of the board went to Comfort Inn's house this morning with the city detective to "give Comfort Inn the papers." What does this mean??? Has Comfort Inn done something illegal?
We are filled with burning questions.
We're becoming increasingly frustrated with Comfort Inn who seems to be in love with changing policy. We don't deny that, as the boss, she can change pretty much whatever policy she likes (given board approval). The problem is, once she gets said approval she changes policy at will. We're talking daily.
With no notice.
Seriously, we'll be doing something according to the old rule and Comfort Inn comes along and yells at us for not acting according to the new rule. The one she has yet to tell us about. And the next day she changes it again, also with no notice.
We can't take much more of this yanking back and forth.
We knew no good would come from our new boss. Today we were informed by email that we may not enter the staff lounge without prior permission. The STAFF LOUNGE. No entry for any reason without asking. We are not toddlers. And our staff lounge has always doubled as a work space. A place where we made posters and decorations for special programs. We explained this to Comfort Inn. She does not care. She says these things do not need to be done. They are to be done at the main desk or not at all. We are not to be away from the main desk without express permission from her. This seems problematic.
It is official. We have a new boss at Tartarus. Let's call her Comfort Inn.
Comfort Inn does not seem to realize her own age. She dresses like a teenager headed to a honky-tonk themed night club (we know for a fact she is a grandmother).

One's personal style seems like a petty thing to complain about. Friends, that is just the tip of the iceberg.
Just two hours after her arrival, Comfort Inn began making huge changes to the way Tartarus is arranged and even to basic policy. We are used to bosses who take weeks to change even the smallest things (you may recall the hour-long discussion about where to keep a stapler). All of Tartarus is reeling. We are concerned what may be in our future.
